Birth Doula & Breastfeeding Support

As a birth doula my goal is to provide my clients with informational, emotional and physical support in a safe and non-judgmental environment. While I respect and support the normalcy of natural childbirth, I understand that changes can arise during the birth process and that interventions can be necessary for the safety and well being of mother and baby. I have experience in home, birth center and hospital birth settings.

As a birth doula, I accompany my clients in labor to help them achieve satisfying and empowering birth experiences. I draw upon my knowledge and training to provide my clients with emotional support and physical comfort, and I assist them in gaining the information needed to make informed decisions throughout their birth process. Additionally, I provide reassurance and perspective to my clients and their partners, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, massage, positioning and other techniques for comfort.

In addition to a preliminary informational meeting where I get to know prospective clients, I provide a prenatal visit to your home or meeting place of your choice. During the prenatal visit I will talk about your birthing preferences, discuss your birth plan, practice positions for labor, and discuss and review relaxation techniques that might make sense for you during your labor. I also provide a second, optional prenatal meeting where I can provide you with a private 90 minute breastfeeding class and where we can also discuss the postpartum period and address infant care questions.

During your labor I will provide a range of relaxation techniques to assist you. I am available to all my clients by telephone and email, as needed and as desired, and I remain on call from 37 weeks of your pregnancy until the birth of your baby. I will remain with you and your family after the birth of your baby for one to two hours, and I will work with you to help to establish breastfeeding, if desired.

After the birth of your baby I will provide a postpartum visit in your home where I can provide additional breastfeeding support that falls within the scope of my knowledge as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). I am happy to provide all prospective clients with a contract for more information on my services. The fee for my services, explained above, is $1000.

I offer my birth doula & lactation support services to families in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. If you are interested in my services, please contact me and we can set up a free consultation to meet and see if we are a good match for each other. I encourage you to meet as many doulas as you feel comfortable meeting, to ensure you find the right match for you.
